File Extension Sis

There should be little confusion when identifying files with the ".sis" suffix, as this extension is used by only one type of file, and that is the Symbian software installation file. This type of file contains all of the necessary data for a complete installation of a specific program package which is run under the Symbian mobile operating system platform. Since many people may not be familiar with this platform, it's necessary to explain a bit of background on the company and their intentions.

I really do love FileCure because it's so easy to use - you don't have to be some kind of computer guru to get just what you need!

Plug and play? Not even close. I spent a lot of time trying to get my new, so-called 'plug and play' scanner to work. I was about ready to take it back. ParetoLogic FileCure got it working and saved me a needless trip (and gas!!) back to the store.

I have to admit I'm no computer geek. When something goes wrong, I usually have to call someone to fix it and it costs me a lot of money. When my printer wouldn't work, a friend of mine suggested I try ParetoLogic FileCure a try. I figured it was worth a shot because I was going to have to pay for a geek anyway. I was so happy when it worked... and worked properly!

I figured the graphics card my grandson gave me was broken when I couldn't get it work on my computer. It turns out that I just didn't have the right driver. ParetoLogic FileCure got it workin.

Hello FileCure folks:

I can't thank you enough for this great product. I just bought a new Vista machine and had been having all kinds of problems. First it was my screen and once I got that fixed it was the printer . Finally, my son suggested I try your product. It worked great and continues to keep my computer working. Thanks you.

I hate paying a lot of money for anything. That's why I buy mostly used computer equipment. Last week I thought I got taken when I bought a scanner. It just would not work. ParetoLogic Driver Cure got it working. With the updates, it makes sure my stuff will keep working and that I don't have to pay more money.

I work at a school so my mom thinks I am some kind of computer whiz. I have wasted so much time trying to get her stuff to work. Our IT guy suggested I try ParetoLogic FileCure. It has been a godsend and has saved me a lot of wasted hours. My mom and I can't thank you enough.

Carol S., Saskatchewan

My wife bought me a new Vista system, and ever since I have had problems with some of my hardware. I saw FileCure, and decided to give it a shot. Ever since, the Vista and my hardware have been working great. Thanks!

Nick Shultz, Canberra, Australia

I upgraded my system to Vista, and my printer started to act funny. No error messages, but it just wasn't working quite right. I read that drivers could sometimes be the problem. I looked online and saw FileCure. After downloading FileCure, my printer works great. You guys rock!

Symbian was founded by Symbian Ltd. in the year 1998 as an OS designed for the ARM low power central processing unit exclusively. ARM processors are found in a huge number of low power mobile devices, from hand held gaming consoles to cellular phones. Symbian was co-opted by multiple companies as an attempt to bridge a usability gap between converging devices. As the platform matured, it became the number one most used operating system for "smart mobile" devices which are multifunction and include PDAs and smartphones, currently holding nearly 47% of the market share.

More Info Regarding File Extension Sis

Not quite completely proprietary and yet not quite open source, up until the more recent versions of the operating system the API used to write programs for the device was freely available and anyone with the desire and appropriate knowledge could create as they wished. Most recently, they Symbian developers have added what they call the "Platform Security Framework," which forces developers to get approval from certain bodies such as specific phone manufacturers. Despite this, the development process remains largely open, and there has developed quite a library of open source software for Symbian. Later in it's life, the Symbian platform focused its efforts on creating a platform that catered to many different platforms as the mobile device markets converged and the lines between the different types of these devices blurred. A significant number of different hardware manufacturers joined in this effort to promote cross-compatibility, and Symbian's market share is a clear demonstration of the success of this effort.

Now that you're familiar with some background information, we'll move to how to use the file in different ways. If you are trying to open a .sis Symbian program installation file from within Windows, you will receive an error about the file type not being recognized. To be installed and executed on to a mobile device running Symbian, the file must first be transferred to the device on which you intend to have the program reside. Generally speaking, the file is not meant to be run from within Windows and must be installed locally. In fact, it is not possible to install the program from Windows across a direct or network connection to your mobile device. The installation file, once run from the mobile device, will display a dialogue with prompts which walk the user through the install process.

There is one scenario in which a user can run a Symbian program from within the Windows OS, but it requires the use of a Symbian emulator. An emulator is a program which produces a completely self contained version of another platform, such as a video game console's operating system, or in this case, the OS that a particular phone, PDA, or other mobile device uses. This emulator program allows a user to test, use in real time, and develop software for a non natie platform on a normal PC without the hassle of having to work with the actual mobile device hardware. It can be very difficult to type for an extended period on the tiny keyboard of a smart phone! In fact, there are emulators of other environments like video game systems which can be run on the Symbian OS itself! If you would like to test a .sis installation file within an emulator on your PC, first download the appropriate emulator, depending on what mobile device, interface, and version of Symbian you are using. A search engine will turn up all the necessary software. Install the emulator to your PC, and then run it. From within the emulator's interface, locate and execute the .sis file; the installation should complete successfully with all necessary user input.

Should you encounter any unexplained errors related to file integrity or data corruption, you can take steps to make sure that you are working with complete files by making sure that there was no problem during transmission of the file, whether it be across a network or from removable media of some sort. Also, make sure that the file is not damaged at its source. Attempt to obtain an alternate copy, if possible from another source.
